CONTEXT

Positioned on the ninth floor overlooking the Mula River, the apartment draws much of its character from its setting. The long western edge of the home receives the evening sun in full, allowing light to become a daily event rather than a background condition.

The brief sought balance. The apartment needed to function as a refined first home for a young client while remaining generous and familiar for visiting parents. Rather than leaning into the predictable vocabulary of the contemporary bachelor pad, the project pursued restraint, softness and permanence.

The result is a home that feels deeply connected to its landscape.

IDEA

Most bachelor homes attempt to perform adulthood through darker palettes and heavier materials. This project resisted that instinct entirely.

Instead, the home turned toward light, openness and elemental calm. The sunset became the project’s central collaborator, guiding the atmosphere of each space through colour, reflection and mood.

The living room was conceived as earth: grounded and communal.

The master bedroom became water: restorative and fluid.

The guest bedroom evolved as sky: light and expansive.

Together, the spaces form an interior oasis shaped less by decoration and more by emotional climate

CRAFT

The project relied on disciplined detailing and material restraint rather than overt gestures. Finishes were selected for longevity and tactile clarity, while collaborations with skilled carpenters and vendors ensured precision in execution.

Several components were prototyped and recalibrated during construction to improve spatial efficiency and everyday usability. Storage, junctions and built elements were resolved with exactness, allowing the home to feel composed without appearing overworked.

IMPACT

The apartment continues to operate as an adaptable domestic landscape: equally suited to solitude, routine and gathering.

As daylight shifts across the riverfront edge, the interiors transform with it, producing subtle atmospheric changes throughout the day. More than a stylistic exercise, the project demonstrates how softness, light and elemental thinking can shape a contemporary urban home with lasting emotional resonance.
